Inteview with Jaz Primo

Here with me today is author Jaz Primo,
of the Sunset Series.
Thank you Jaz for taking time out of your busy life to answer my questions! So Jaz

Dawn: So Jaz lets start by getting to know you a little better.

Jaz: I live in central Oklahoma with my wonderful wife, Lori, and a long-lived cat. While I'm a history buff who has a keen sense of humor, and who loves puns, my paramount passion in life is writing! I harbor a lifelong love for fantasy, science fiction, and vampires in both literature and film. My full-time career has been in higher education working for a college, where I also teach U.S. history a couple of nights a week. I love teaching, which allows me an opportunity to reach out to students in a more direct way than the support-related function of my daily administrative work.

Dawn: Wow! You are one busy man!So why did you decide to become a writer?

Jaz: I've been smitten with creative writing since I was a young boy in grade school. I used to write short stories, and occasionally my teachers would permit me to read them to the class. I don't have the skills (or coordination!) to play a musical instrument or draw/paint, so writing has always been my outlet for emotions and the machinations of my imagination

Dawn: That's great! I have always wanted to be a writer. But I find its easier to come up with the story in my head than putting in on paper "chuckles" So I will stick with reading other people's work.

Dawn: How many book have you written so far?

Jaz: I have written three novels thus far.

Sunrise at Sunset (Sunset Vampire Series, Book #1)

A Bloody London Sunset (Sunset Vampire Series, Book #2)

Summit at Sunset (Sunset Vampire Series, Book #3) -- To Be Released in October 2011

Dawn: After a visit to your web site I am very excited to read this series. I just love Vampire fiction and can't get enough of it!

Dawn: Tell me Jaz where do you find the inspiration for your novels?

Jaz:I receive inspiration from the effect that music has on my imagination. Granted, sometimes I will see a film that evokes strong emotions in me that might guide my feelings towards a situation or characters, but mostly it's music that presses the "start" button on my imagination, and then "away I go."

Dawn: I have noticed a lot of authors printing a play list at the end of their books. So now I know why! "laughing:

Dawn: Since there are two books in the Sunset Series, are you by any chance working on a third?

Jaz: Currently, I'm going through my editor's markup of my third Sunset Vampire manuscript (Summit at Sunset) and making changes or corrections that she recommended. Once the novel has been published this fall, my next project is a historical fantasy novel that I'm not quite ready to reveal because I'm still performing research for the core material. Rest assured, there's more to come on the topic in the not-too-distant future.

Dawn: Tell me where can I buy a copy of your books?

Jaz:My Sunset Vampire Series novels are available in trade paperback and/or eBook formats from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Apple iBookstore, and some local booksellers.

(Dawn: I have added links for both Sunrise at Sunset and A Bloody London Sunset from Amazon to the blog page. For anyone interested in buying these wonderful books.)

Dawn: Great! I will be adding both these books to my Amazon wish list as soon as the interview is over "Smiling broadly"

Dawn: It seems like e-books are all people talk about anymore. I personally still prefer paperback. I love the feel of holding a book in my hands and the smell of it. Plus after I finish it I can add it to my bookshelf. So Jaz what is your preference?

Jaz: For the past two years year, since acquiring my Kindle, I really prefer to read eBooks. I just love carrying my library around with me, and the eInk technology on the Kindle has the appearance and contrast of reading an actual printed page. It's especially wonderful on trips or at events when trying to tote physical books around might be inconvenient or impractical. That being said, I still collect my favorite novels in paperback and add them to my "keep forever" bookshelves at home. (Yes, that means paying for two copies instead of one, but aren't the best authors and stories worth purchasing twice? *wink*)

Dawn: Tell me do you have a favorite author?

Jaz: That's easy to answer! My favorite author is L.E. Modesitt, Jr. He is the author of more than 55 novels spanning a number of fantasy series, including: The Saga of Recluce (my favorite series!), The Corean Chronicles, The Ecolitan Institute, The Spellsong Cycle, and The Imager Portfolio.

Dawn: Wow! I would have had to think about that question for days! Then I still don't know if I would have had an answer! "Laughing Loudly"

Dawn: When I was in high school I read a book called "Sex Education" by Jenny Davis (and no its not x-rated lol). Still to this day that book has stuck with me. I can still remember the emotional roller coaster it put me thru like I just read it yesterday. Have you ever read a book like that?

Jaz: Well, I would have to say that rather than a single book, L.E. Modesitt's Saga of Recluce series has influenced me the most because of his wonderful writing style and the thoughtful, realistic manner that his characters and settings are presented. Modesitt has most impressed and influenced me by the capable, strong manner that many central female characters are presented in his novels. (I don't like reading about helpless women...give me Xena: Warrior Princess or Wonder Woman instead! I believe that women are inherently stronger and more capable than popular culture or society is willing to admit or embrace.)

Dawn: Well I totally love that answer!

Dawn: Do you have any advise for someone that may be thinking about becoming a writer?

Jaz: First and foremost, take the time to hone your writing craft and skills through writing exercises, formal classes, or workshops, and by reading the works of other good writers. Next, find yourself a viable, unique storyline and create compelling characters and settings that readers can immerse themselves in. Finally, secure the services of an excellent editor, and locate well-read proofreaders who can critique your work. It's so important that before you query an agent or publisher, or attempt to self-publish your own work, that you have a well-written manuscript to release into the world. Those are essential keys to potential success for all writers!

Dawn: Great advise!

Dawn: Well you are already on book three of the Sunset Series, do you know how many books will be in the series?

Jaz: Well, I can say for certain that I already know how the series ends, but I'm not certain how many books there will be to get to that point. I know there will at least be five, but probably not more than seven. How's that? *grinning*

Dawn: "Laughing" Well that will work. After reading about Sunrise at Sunset, your characters seem very interesting. Can you give me some details about them?

Jaz: Beginning in Sunrise at Sunset, each of the two central characters (Katrina and Caleb) are on their own journeys through life that intersect under unusual circumstances. Both of them harbor some emotional scars or aberrations that inhibit their ability to be "complete" as individuals. Though seemingly flawed, in their own unique manner each character engenders attributes that harbor the capacity for a positive influence on one other. I think that most readers will find that my novels are refreshingly unconventional in the way that I approach gender roles for a couple of the main characters. Granted, I have received some negative (sometimes insulting) feedback for breaking stereotypical societal norms in that area. Yet, so many more people have supportively declared that my novels are fresh and different, and they appreciate the assertive, reverent, and capable manner that I present key female characters. Finally, my characters don't remain stagnant; they continue to grow and develop through each of my novels, just as we do as people in real life. I think that makes the characters tangible and enjoyable to read about.

Dawn: Oh now I know Sunrise at Sunset will be my next book purchase! So If I beg will you give me a preview?

Jaz: How about a brief teaser for the third Sunset Vampire novel?

Dawn: Oh that would be great!

Jaz: In A Bloody London Sunset, Caleb Taylor learned that vampires are virtually everywhere. Soon, he experiences firsthand the mounting scale of that revelation.

As time nears for a rare gathering of vampires in Europe, powerful vampire Katrina Rawlings and her human mate, Caleb, are brought front and center before a dangerous galvanization of opposing ideologies. Despite Katrina’s best efforts, she is drawn into the escalating tensions by her friend and former mentor, Alton. When mysterious vampires preemptively seek out Katrina through Caleb, she is challenged to carefully balance diplomacy against concerns for the safety of the man she dearly loves. As push comes to shove, Katrina looks to her best friend, Paige, for help. But how much does the fate of one human weigh against a precariously-held and centuries old peace that threatens to destabilize the worlds of humans and vampires alike?

Get ready for Summit at Sunset, the exciting third novel in the Sunset Vampire Series!

Jaz: Wow, have we reached the end of the interview already? I hope that you and your blog followers will take an opportunity to read my novels. I think that readers will find my storyline and characters to be fresh and different from the traditional facets of paranormal vampire romance that's currently in the marketplace. Finally, thank you for the wonderful opportunity to be interviewed for your blog, Dawn. I've genuinely enjoyed it! *Big Smile*

Dawn: No Jaz! I should be the one thanking you! This has been a very exciting interview!

This wraps up the interview with Jaz Primo. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Now on to the surprise ending! Jaz has been kind enough to donate a signed copy of Sunrise at Sunset! To go along with it is a signed bookmark and signed business card!

To enter all you have to do is leave a comment under this interview! Can't get any easier than that.

The contest will be open for one week. From July 16th to July 23rd. Good luck and happy reading!

In closing I will leave you will trailers for both books!

Interview With Author Kymberlee Burks-Miller

Welcome to I Love Books Kymberlee and thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to do this interview.

Dawn: So Kymberlee tell us a little bit about your self.

Kymberlee: I am 36 years old. I live in McSherrytown, Pennsylvania with my husband and son Connor.

Dawn: Being a wife and mother is it hard for you to find time to write?

Kymberlee: Not Really. Its all about organization and being that I am OCD its not a problem LOL.

Dawn: Do you have a special place you go to write?

Kymberlee: Yes! I love to write in my bedroom with my smelly candles, music and perfect lighting.

Dawn: Boy that sounds so peaceful! So how old where you when you decided you wanted to become a writer?

Kymberlee: I started really Writing when I was in 5th grade. By the time I was a freshman in high school, I knew I wanted to entertain people with my stories.

Dawn: Wow! You knew from a young age what you wanted to do with your life. That's so great!

Dawn: How many books have you written so far?

Kymberlee: I wrote a children's series called Ravenwood about seven child fairies that learn all about values and morality on their adventures through the kingdom of Ravenwood. It started off just as little bed time stories for my son Connor and, he begged me not to stop. So it became a 25 book series for elementary aged children. Each book broaches a different value. Another series that I wrote is called Supernatural Society, and that is about the human race becoming the minority, and four beings A demon, werewolf, witch and vampire go up against all odds to save our race. This series is definitely more geared towards the 18+ crowd, it gets saucy!

Dawn: That is amazing Kymberlee! Your like a superwoman lol. Raising a family and writing so many stories! That's some imagination you have! Where do you get your inspiration for your unique books?

Kymberlee: My inspiration comes from everywhere! A song, a dream and funny enough my wonderful family.

Dawn: I can tell that your family means a lot to you. As a mother I can totally relate to that. What are you working on at the moment?

Kymberlee: Right now I am writing the 2nd book in the Compulsion Series and finishing Enchantment. Compulsion is a book about Lilyann Moon, and her trials after her grandmother dies under highly suspicious circumstances. Lily finds out that she is a witch along with her 11 young family members. The vampires have found out that the Moon line didn't end with her grandmother, and now she's is a race against time to save her coven. The bright spot in her nightmare was meeting Mason, but is she in love with the enemy? With a coven of 12 there is a character there that everyone will fall in love with.
Enchantment is about 16 year old Teddy O'Malley. She is very happy in the beginning of her junior year at a Virginia Beach high school on the Navy base where her mom is a Lt. and a surgeon. Her world gets flipped upside down when her mother gets orders to go to a Naval Base in London. Teddy is totally miserable but used to having to move with her mom. As she's packing she finds a letter from her father speaking of her hidden heritage. Her father is a fairy, but just any fairy the King of Iridesia. On her last night in the states she wishes on a star to meet her dad and is answered by a fairy named Flynn, but is her going to help Teddy or has she befriended an enemy of her fathers'?

Dawn: Both of those books sound so interesting. I am excited to read them! When will they be released?

Kymberlee: Compulsion is being released through Schiel & Denver 10/1/2011

Enchantmnet is being released through Schiel & Denver 12/2012

Dawn: Oh great! I am so excited! So Kymberlee if I beg you just a little would you please, pretty please with sugar on top give us a sneak peek of your book Compulsion?

Kymberlee: I will do you 1 better and give you the 1st page.

Dawn: Ok Kymberlee you are the best! Ok fans here is the first page of Compulsion by Kymberlee Burks-Miller

I am nothing spectacular. Not the girl that everyone turns and ogles as she passes by. Not the girl who is overly sexy, or sporty. For that matter not even a total braniac. Just an ordinary girl. Tall, slender, long curly brown hair and weird blue eyes. Like I said ordinary to the extreme! So why is he staring at me? The man in the suit that is totally designer by the way. My guess Armani. With those piercing emerald green eyes. My phone vibrates and Steve Earle’s Galway Girl plays loudly. What can I say I’m Irish! “Hel-lo” my voice chipper as it always is when I’m at the mall! I recognized the hysteria in the familiar voice on the other end. It’s my father and he is crying “Lily, sweetie you’ll need to come home..........granny has passed.” My world has just shattered for the second time in my life with those three simple little words.

I have gotten pretty good at hiding my emotions in public. When your mom dies of Breast Cancer when you’re in your early teens you feel like scratching someone’s eyeballs out! And that really is not a socially acceptable public display of emotion right? People come up to you with their sad smiles and give their condolences. And then after a while people continue to stare but the comments are usually behind your back especially where my family lives which is Hampstead, Maryland. “Oh that poor man and he has all those children to raise alone.” “Those poor girls without their mothers’ guidance so young.” That’s why when I applied and was accepted to Towson State University in Towson, Maryland, which is almost an hour from home, I jumped and took it! Pre-Law thank you very much. So I left Towson Town Center with my poker face firmly in place, heading to the garage to get my Jeep, and allow the much needed breakdown and phone call to Camden, my best friend. I got in my Jeep and the tears started just as I started dialing. Two rings and Cam answered “Lily, oh my god! Your dad just called, I’m so sorry!” I started my Jeep and turned the radio off ironically the song playing was Kris Allen’s live like we’re dying. I rubbed at my eyes with the sleeves of my shirt and said to Cam “ I just don’t understand how Cam!” more sobs “I just saw her last weekend, she was walking in her garden picking herbs and baking about a million cookies, and pies. This makes no sense!” I pulled out of my space a little erratically and came around the turn going down out of the garage a little too fast still talking to Cam on speaker “I know it’s hard Lily, she’s been like a mom to you for so long.” When I was just about to tell Cam, like only a bff can, to stop! Out of nowhere there was the guy from the mall again in front of my Jeep! I slammed on my brakes, just in time and screamed “For shits sake!” He just stared at me. All I could do was stare back. I felt like his eyes wouldn’t let mine go. He was so cute. Tall, lean but muscular, and great hair, brown and a full head of it! Cam’s wailing brought me out of the thought of just how yummy this guy was and that I could have just killed him. “Lily what’s wrong? Did you hit something? Are you ok? Lily answer me!” I turned to look back at him, but he was gone. Where did he go? I scanned the garage, but nothing, no sight of him! So I answered “Yes I’m fine, almost hit a hot guy but. Whatever.”

So this wraps up the interview with Kymberlee. Hope you all enjoyed it! Because Kymberlee is such a wonderful person, she is giving a way two signed posters. One of Compulison and one of Enchanted. All you have to do you enter is leave a comment of her fans page on facebook. Then leave a comment on this post. Here are the links:

Goodluck everyone!

Inverview with Dominique Weldon

OK folks this is my very first interview! My guess today is Dominique Weldon.

Hi Dominique, thank you for being here with us today. So Dominique, tell us a little bit about your self.

Well, I guess I should start with the basic introduction, right? My name is Dominique Weldon, from the lovely little state known as Iowa. I've been here all my seventeen years of life. And for the record, it's not completely full of corn... only a little!

Tell us about your family: I live with my mom and younger siblings. I was lucky enough to be the oldest child! My family is very interesting, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. Besides, who wants a boring family, right?

Ha Ha your family sounds very interesting Dominique. What are your plans for the future?

I plan on staying here until at least after High School next year-finally a senior! After that I'm not so sure; I'll probably stay in the mid west for college, while trying to find a publisher who wants me!

Well sounds to me like you know exactly what you want to do. Being a Senior must be very exciting for you!

So why did you decide to become a writer?

I think I really didn't choose to be a writer, it choose me. All my life I've been in love with the written word, from at least age five. As a child I've always had a notebook with me,one holding a little story of mine. Although I never realized this until I made it to Jr. High! I started writing simply for fun, and all my friends kept telling me to try to get them published. I thought it was honestly a stupid idea, but after awhile the idea settled in. So you can thank all my fellow classmates, because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be perusing the dream of being published.

Keep dreaming Dominique I'm sure your dream will come true very soon! How many books have your written so far?

Oh wow, there is absolutely no possible way I can do that! I have been writing since I was five, and around then I was given a huge binder full of blank paper! In that binder was over one hundred little stories. Over the course of elementary came about a dozen more, and I started writing true 'novels' in Jr. High. There are fifteen of those.... So we can just go with fifteen! The name of the novel I'm working on now is called Eternal Darkness, the final book in a eight-part series - one I've put four years into!

Oh wow! For a seventeen year old senior in high school you are very dedicated to your writing!

Do you have any advice for anyone thinking about becoming a writer?

I'm not sure if I have the place to give advice, I could still use some myself! The only thing I can say is keep writing; yes I'm sure everyone has heard this line before and are probably sick of it, but it works! To get better at something you have to practice, right? I still have a lot to learn, but after looking back at some of my older work I realized that I've actually improved! Which is very reassuring because I know there's actually hope for me! Also study the craft, learn all you can about the English language and study it. How can you even think about writing if you don't know how it even works?

Can you tell us a little about the book you are working on right now?

Well silly me thought that I could take on five projects at once-which for the record was a crazy idea on my part- but the one I'm putting the most time into is my novel Eternal Darkness. It is the final chapter in my Frozen Rain series. I really hope to get this published someday, so I don't want to give away too much, but it resolves around my main character Nikola Waynes. The final battle between her and enemy Solomen Williams is about to begin. Sorry, that's all I can spill! Don't hate me guys!

We understand completely Dominique, no worries there! But can't you please just give us a little preview?

I guess I can share a paragraph of my work, as long as everyone remembers that this is completely, and totally unedited- straight from the rough draft! I hope it's not too awful!

Eternal Darkness~

It was becoming harder to see, to hear, to breathe. Was I going to let them end my life so easily? If they didn't stop me then Victor would take to job with pleasure. Someone's life was going to end tonight, and it might be mine.

The room lost shape, definition, now only a swirl of colors. No longer did anything make sense to my eyes. The cold slabs of the prison floor sizzled against my flesh. The walls and ceiling began to cave in, with the intent to suffocate. The simple act of breathing was scratching sandpaper against my lungs- agony. But I couldn't escape it, too tired to even try. The burning wasn't gong to stop, it'd never stop.

Not until they were done with me...

Wow that is very interesting! Ok that wraps up my interview with Dominique Weldon. Thank you once again Dominique for taking the time to let us all get to know you a little better! For those that would like to know more about Dominique, she can be found on facebook

Hope you all enjoy my first interview and look forward to hearing feedback about it

Happy Saturday

Well since this was my first weekend off the whole summer, today was family day. I have a wonderful husband named Jason (but I call him Baby). And two teenage sons Logan 14 (15 in a month) and Lucas 12. So we took a trip down the Barren Fork River on inter tubes. That was a blast! Now we are home, cooking some food and relaxing. After dark we are going to watch a movie in the front yard. Not sure what movie we will watch its a toss up between Twilight and How To Train Your Dragon.
So that is why I haven't read not one little bit today, but spending time with my little family is important too. I hope to get some reading in tomorrow. Just have to wait and see what the day brings. I'm reading My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton. I just love a good vampire book. This one didn't cost one cent, since I won it from Book Reader Addict. Its signed and all!
Time to get back to the family. Hope everyone has a great Saturday, like I have.
Well until next post keep reading.

Review: Ethereal by Addison Moore

Skyla Messenger is a dead girl walking.

When her newly remarried mother moves the family to Paragon Island, to a house that is rumored to be haunted, Skyla finds refuge in Logan Oliver, a boy who shares her unique ability to read minds.

Skyla discovers Logan holds the answers to the questions she’s been looking for, but Logan’s reluctance to give her the knowledge she desires leaves her believing Logan has a few secrets of his own.

Skyla’s bloodlines may just be connected to the most powerful angelic beings that roam the earth, and the more she knows, the more danger she seems to be in.

Suddenly an entire faction of earthbound angels wants her dead, at least she still has Logan, or does she?

Wow! What an awesome book! Allison kept you wanting more with her wonderfully unique story line and enthralling characters. If you love the Hush, Hush Series then you definitely need to read Ethereal! I fell in love with this book, can't wait to read the next one in the series. The only problem I have is its not in paperback. I would love to add this series to my bookcase! Find Ethereal on Amazon for just .99 cents for your kindle :)
